SINGAPORE, 21 June 2021 - The Singapore SME 500 Award 2020 was significantly different compared to the past years of recognising our local SMEs.

With the pandemic abruptly disrupting businesses across the globe, the Singapore SME 500 Award 2020 has been realigned to recognise SMEs that have been resilient to the impacts caused by the pandemic, while having in place effective strategies to steer their businesses ahead.

The Singapore SME 500 Award 2020 has honoured 216 enterprises, covering a total of 20 business industries and sectors.

As part of the new norms, the event was conducted virtually on 18 June 2021, with an insightful opening address conducted by Mr Don Wee. Attendees were also provided with industry insights from Western Union Business Solutions, enabling them to gather key information to better strategize their businesses in the months ahead.

The event ended with our Vice President, Mr Sebastian Kwek, addressing the attendees in his closing speech.

We will like to thank Mr Don Wee, Western Union Business Solution, winners of the Singapore SME 500 Award 2020 and attendees for making the event a success.

Once again, congratulations to all Singapore SME 500 Award 2020 Winners.

Guest-of-Honour, Mr Don Wee,
Distinguished guests, ladies, and gentlemen,

1 Thank you for attending the Singapore SME 500 2020 Awards Presentation Ceremony this evening.

2 It is both my honour and pleasure to be here to celebrate the success of our local enterprises and to co-present this significant award in recognition of our SMEs who have contributed to our society, community, and nation.

3 The SME 500 Award in 2020 was significantly different compared to the past years. With the sudden COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted businesses globally, our local businesses were not spared either.

4 While the award has continuously recognized our local enterprises that have been well developed and managed effectively, the SME 500 Award 2020 has also assessed SMEs on its capability and resilience towards economic and social changes.

5 In 2020, we have received more than 1,500 applications under the SME 500 Award. Only 216, who are present with us this evening has been awarded.

6 With the tight schedule, allow me to share an example:

a. Josiah Kids, an infant to kindergarten provider has adopted digitalization as part of their efforts in providing parents with an understanding of their services and centres. When the COVID-19 pandemic has affected businesses, Josiah Kids understand that digitalization is inevitable, and they quickly responded by incorporating virtual viewings and online curriculum.

Today, Josiah Kids have 06 centres around Singapore supporting parents and educating children across the island.

7 I am confident that the SME 500 Award Winners will continue to be a good inspiration to our business community, maintaining the highest level of business standards. Together, we can continue to build a vibrant, resilient and innovative business ecosystem.

8 Lastly, congratulations to all 216 award winners and please enjoy the rest of the evening.

9 Thank you.
